Shuli Jones (Toronto- first Canadian to compete on KW)(12)- Desires to be a designer or writer
Thomas Hurley (Newtown, CT)(12)- Aspiring "J!" host
Skyler Hornback (Sonora, KY)(12)- Wants to be a politician

BB:
THIS CATEGORY HAS "IZE"
WHAT'S FOR BREAKFAST?
AUTHORS
LET'S PLAY A GAME
TV TIME

CAPITAL MAP IT ALL (photo clues)

On the second "IZE", Skyler has the DD w/ $2,600, followed by Shuli's $1,200 (but she was $400 in the red early) & Thomas' $800. He bets $2K.

To punish a sports player for an infraction.

"What is penalize?" results in a $2K addition to Skyler's score, now at $4,600! After the first three of these categories are played, he has $5,200 at the halfway mark, double Thomas' bank.

SOLE TS: Unattempted $600 Author (Mark Twain)

Current Scores:

Skyler: $10,200/Thomas: $5,200/Shuli: $2,400

DJ! Listings:
PEAKS & VALLEYS
MUSEUMS
YOU DO THE MATH
WORLD HISTORY
LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU
FOREIGN WORDS & PHRASES

On the third You Do the Math problem, Skyler finds his second DD of the day & puts 10 grand on the line:

Vacation has taken you to a country where it's four Pesos to every Dollar, so your $7.5 gets you this many Pesos.

His response is..."What is 30 Pesos?" for $21,400! The final one is in the palms of...Shuli inside the $1,600 Museum & she stands at $10,400, $800 ahead of Thomas for 2nd place; Skyler's approaching KW record territory w/ $32,600 now. As for Shuli, she bets $4K.

What's called "the oldest house museum complex" is located in this FL city, the USA's oldest city.

"What is...Tampa?"...Gail Kim's hometown is a good guess, but not correct- St. Augustine.

DJ! LT (all unattempted): $2K

The Tallies Heading Into Final:

Skyler: $36,600 (LG)/Thomas: $9,600/Shuli: $6,400

CORYAT SCORES:
Skyler: $26,200
Shuli: $10,400

FJ! CATEGORY #228: The Civil War.

Abraham Lincoln called this document, which took effect in 1863, "...a fit and necessary war measure".

SHULI: "What is the second amendment?" (1/2) = $3,200
THOMAS: "What is the Emanciptation Proclamation?" ($3K) = $6,600

Skyler's a big Abraham Lincoln fan...& his final Q of "What is the Emancipation Proclamation?" is GOOD! But did he wager enough for a new KW mark?...

...YES W/ $30K FOR $66,600 (but Alex didn't mention it was a new KW record)!!!!!!!!

(Final note: If he had missed the FJ! answer, we would've gone to SV for the $15K.)

VB: Kid Wins $66K+!

7/30/13 Quick News & Notes

Posted on 17:39 by Unknown
-Teresa Giudice & husband Joe were indicted on 39 separate counts of IRS fraud indictment & could face 50+ yrs. in prison.
-Conan O'Brien sounded sick last week & that has also been the case for both Jay Leno & Max Kellerman this week & last week.
-Next season during the Prize Puzzle Round on "Wheel of Fortune", a new wedge called the Express $1K will debut. Here, should a contestant call a correct consonant, s/he will have $1K per appearance added to their bank & be given this decision- take another normal turn or hop on the Express (at which point a contestant window similar to the BR is formed & an Express logo replaces the two-row logo bug in the bottom-left corner). While in Express Mode, s/he must continue calling consonants at $1K per app. &/or buying vowels without spinning the wheel until they solve the PP or make a mistake. If the player does make a mistake (such as calling/buying a dud or duplicating a letter), it's an automatic Bankrupt.
-Tomorrow's featured QD items are a dish sponge & baseball card.

"Jeopardy!" 7/30/13

Posted on 17:10 by Unknown
John Wilkins (Chevy Chase, MD)(11)- Aspiring lawyer
Sallie Rawlston (Soddy-Daisy, TN)(youngest in this season's field at 10)- An aspiring video game designer who's a park ranger in eight states

Aarin Martinez (Torrance, CA)- A future journalist who wants to write for National Geographic

(Notes: The start of the intro on Tues. shows is "Introducing..." & the Thurs. tagline is "Please welcome...").

BB:
BOOK TALK
OLYMPIC SPORTS OBJECTS
CLOTHING
WORLD FACTS
U.S. STAMPS
GIVE UP THE "SHIP"!

John opens up a DD on the $800 bit of Book Talk & he's in LGT early w/ $3,200 to Aarin's one grand & Sallie's negative 800 bucks. He goes for another G-spot.

Sweet! In books by Judy Blume, Farley Drexel Hatcher's better known by this nickname.

"What is Fudge?"...that surely wasn't said as a bad thing, 'cause that's right for $4,200! He adds $2K to that before halftime & now has a $5K advantage over Aarin; Sallie's just $200 on the bad side.

PR

Current Scores:

Aarin: $6,600/Sallie: $2K/John!!!: $9,400

DJ! Rundown:
EARLY AMERICAN HISTORY
MUSIC
NUMERIC WORDS & PHRASES
WEATHER
ANIMALS IN POETRY
BALLOON TIME

Under Early American History, Sallie hits a DD in its center box w/ $2,800; Aarin has $7K & is $2K off John's pace. Sallie wagers $1K too.

This Quaker leader spent only four yrs. in the colony & future state w/ his name on it, leaving for good in 1701.

"Who is William Penn?"...right she is for $3,800; eventually, she triples that figure to $11,400 & takes a slight $400 lead after Balloon Time. The 3rd & final one gets caught by Aarin on the $1,200 Animal in Poetry. She tries for a new total of $7,400, because $1K gets wagered on three of these tonight.

Ted Walker cleverly likened this colorful pet fish to the "...spillings of rich coins on a miser's table".

"What is a Goldfish?"...also the name of a popular Pepperidge Farm snack brand, she got it. They don't reach the last four Weather answers in time.

ATTEMPTED LT: $2K

Before this strong guy's birth, an angel came to his mother saying "No razor shall come on his head".

"Who is Samson?"...$4K! $200 extra goes into his bank as they go to recess; he has a $1,400 lead over Zoe & Erin just got on the scoreboard w/ a G-spot.

The greatest width of this ocean spans about 6,200 miles between Africa & Australia.

"What is the...Indian Ocean?"...that's the correct one out of the four to crawl her way to $6,800. And she immediately hits the last one of the game to end Presidents & First Ladies! To put her at $8K:

"Whodunnit?" 7/28

Posted on 19:00 by Unknown
Sasha's bedroom suite: Geno & Lindsey (they go first because of the close proximity of the two LKW rooms)

To get inside, they had to duck under some caution tape. There are footprints & tracks all over the rugs. In the bed's covers is a white washcloth w/ a kiss mark on it & there's blood on some spots of the wooden floor that leads to an open elevator.

Dana's bedroom suite: Cris & Melina

The same footprint & track mats apply for this one (as does the blood), but the door to this room's locked. To open it, they needed to slide a device under & up, then bend left & pull.

Morgue: Ronnie & Kam

Both victims had a massive forearm cut; Sasha's came on her left arm. In both noses were fibers from the rag to knock both Sasha & Dana out. Both evidence bags hold police uniforms stained w/ wounds.

Melina later takes a blueprint drawn on a regular piece of paper away from Ronnie's grip.

KR #10 (shown on a black/white movie screen): "Dopplegangers of six. Let's have some fun. I kill and I kill till I get down to one. Here's a mind bending clue for the dummy in you. Or will the dummy in you have not a clue? Take notes of double snowman, they will be key. Just a lift of the lid and you will see."

Remember those Sasha & Dana dummies at that grand piano last week? Well, the next clue's on that piano.

KR #11: "No doctor performs this painful task. Operate on myself, you ask? Slice up your stitches, right to the bone, find what's inside, it's your clue to hone."

A scalpel/parcel's required to cut into a dummy's back & deep inside would be the next riddle.

KR #12: "If these walls could talk, they'd implicate me. A cold-blooded killer...no one can see. The place where I dwell Is closed off to all. Move things to the side. Find my hidden wall. You may need your scalpel when you run about. Cut across. Cut down. Cut my heart out."

Using a scalpel to cut through some red wallpaper, another morgue's inside. That three-wheel cart used to kill both Sasha & Dana's in there.

SPARED FIRST- Kam
SCARED- Ronnie & Geno

KILLED W/ A CHANDELIER ON TOP OF HIM IN A HAWAIIAN-THEMED ROOM- Geno (that surprised me, because he was the first player to solve the 1st KR of the night)

The first part was to stack & balance an array of 24 items. In the other phase, they had to remember where they took each item & put it back in exactly that same spot. The winners of the first stage got to see a photo where 10 of the items were exactly placed; 2nd place got nine freebies & so forth.

7/28/13 Quick News & Notes

Posted on 13:33 by Unknown
-When "Cupcake Wars" resumes new episodes, it'll move to a new night- Sat. at 8 PM. They began on 6/13/10 at 10 PM & two nights later moved to Tues. at 9 PM. They moved to Sun. at 8 PM beginning 8/28/11 & its last regular episode in that timeslot was their 100th show.
-The last time I recall anyone sweeping three "Jeopardy!" categories in one rd. was by Roger Craig in DJ! on the night where he set the current one-game record of $77K.
-The (first season) finale of "Food Court Wars" has been moved up to 7 PM on 8/11.
-During S31 of "The Price is Right", when Lucky $even was played for a Ford Mustang Convertible Premium, the last number was never reached. I think the three full prices were $26,783 (12/13/02), $28,432 (2/25/03) & $28,724 (4/23/03- the last of which was also used on the 11/4/03 playing). Also, I believe a $21,582 Mustang Deluxe was played for on 2/18/03.
-On the last taped episode of that season, a $19,722 Chevrolet Tracker was lost.
-The entire run of "Dream House" w/ Bob Eubanks was inadvertently wiped by a flood.

"Redneck Island" 7/27

Posted on 18:59 by Unknown
SS #8 ("Hee-Haw"): The Rednecks have to ride a see-saw & fill their buckets w/ motor oil to fill up two oil cans for Steve's buggy. When they finish, they'll take back to camp some beer, soda & cans of chili. If they don't take too long to finish, though, they'll also take w/ them some good burgers; otherwise, those burgers will be burnt.
BURGER RESULT- MEDIUM-WELL

R #9 ("Varmints in a Tree"): The tree has five levels of obstacles:

#1: Stumps
#2: Rope line (1st varmint)
#3: Log (2nd varmint)
#4: Swings (last varmint)

#5: Leap of faith off the top from a plank

Bucket: 2:30
Misty: 3:33
Brittany: 1:15
Lindsey: 1:07
Cody: 1:06- W BY A SECOND!

FINAL V-O: Brittany receives the first & fourth drawn beer cans, while the middle two are Lindsey's. The final one goes to the last redneck ousted before the finale, who is...Brittany Martin.

-"Fashion Star" is DONE after two seasons.
-Apolo Ohno will be a part of the NBC Sports Network's Winter Olympic Coverage next yr.

"Four Houses" 7/27

Posted on 10:01 by Unknown
Since "Wheel" is starting its tapings there tonight, it's only appropriate this episode is set in/near Las Vegas.

Debbie (real estate agent)(Vegas): $1M Mediterranean Contemporary w/ six bedrooms & bathrooms (although I saw a Ford F-150 SuperCab & a Jeep Grand Cherokee nearby, her immediate outside stuff looked dirty because there were cobwebs; there was also a BOSE stereo inside, but w/ lots of its wires exposed as there were for a Panasonic TV in her master bedroom)(additionally, there were no switch plates for that stereo)
Ken (Luxury Homes in L.V. owner/broker)(Canyon Gate): $3M Old World Andalusia set on a golf course w/ four bedrooms, six bathrooms & a basement/game room that has a wine room stored w/ $100K+ worth of wine (as Debbie was coming inside, I think I heard a guitar vamp of Katy Perry & Snoop Lion's "California Gurls"; his master bedroom had a picture of him next to a Maserati)
Rebecca (a designer/furniture store visual manager who really needs a hybrid car)(Vegas): $250K Earthy Eclectic w/ four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, an entry music room & a breakfast room (besides another F-150 in her neighborhood, I also definitely spotted an older Taurus, a current-generation Nissan Sentra, a Dodge Avenger & a Toyota Venza; there may also have been an Acura Integra/RSX)
Jon (an architect who also designs hotels/casinos worldwide; he competed for charity)(Summerlin): $18M J2 Desert Contemp. also set on a golf course w/ two bowling lanes (as part of a big game room), four bedrooms & 10 bathrooms (plus solar panels on top, a ceiling that looked like an airplane wing & a TV that slowly popped up from under a bed)(the other competitors appropriately arrived in golf carts; there was also a yellow fire hydrant outside)

OI:
J: 4 (K)/6 (R)/10 (D) = 20
D: 5 (J)/2 (R)/4 (K) = 11
R: 6 (J)/3 (J)/4 (D) = 13
K: POSSIBLY UNLUCKY TRIPLE SIX

FS:
J: 20 + 19 + 19 + 23 = 81
D: 11 + 23 + 22 + 18 = 74
R: 13 + 15 + 23 + 16 = 67
K: 18 + 19 + 12 + 19 = 70

7/26/13 Quick News & Notes

Posted on 17:47 by Unknown
-There was no first-run episode of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" Tues. because of the birth of The Fallons' new baby.
-The new shiny floor for "The Price is Right" hasn't been used yet in their S42 tapings, but may next week; it's also said to be translucent.
-I saw somebody arrive in a Chevrolet Corvette Convertible as the "Hell's Kitchen" doors opened for its final DS service of the season.
-The most expensive car offered in daytime on Five Price Tags is still a $28,080 Chevy Blazer 4X4 from 6/10/97.
-The last 3 Strikes automobile in the Bob era to not at least top $30K was a $26,578 Ford Bronco from 4/29/96.
-On later-taped episodes of GSN's "Minute to Win It", the voiceover lady's usually muted out after a challenge's completed.
-Three chocolate Kisses & a pink highlighter are tomorrow's $500 QD items.

"Jeopardy!" 7/26/13- FINAL REGULAR GAME OF S29

Posted on 17:22 by Unknown
Leigh Hoopes (Crescent Springs, KY)- Writer
Bruce Richards (Metairie, LA)- Urban planning consultant
FINAL DEFENDING CHAMP: Jared Hall

(Notes: On Fri., Johnny usually starts the introductions w/ "Today's contestants are...", but he used the Mon. line of "Let's meet today's contestants..." tonight; I think he only uses the normal line "Here are today's contestants..." on Wed. Also, the elevator door transition was used on the studio monitors.)

BB:
RENTERS
"ONER"S
WHO'S ON TOUR?
COUNTRIES BY AIRPORTS
JOHN TYLER
AMERICA'S CUP RACING (CC clues from the S.F. Bay)

In six clues, Jared picks the DD on the $800 box under Countries by Airports w/ $400, but Bruce has the negative version of his score; Leigh has a $200 lead. To put Jared at $1,400:

Puerto Princesa & Ninoy Aquino International

"What is The Philippines?"...right. At the TO, he's in LGT w/ $4,800, now $3K over Bruce.

SOLE ATTEMPTED TS: $400 (Countries by Airports)
SOLE UNATTEMPTED TS: $800 (John Tyler)
TOTAL LT: $1,200

Current Scores:

Jared: $9,200/Bruce: $4,800/Leigh: $2,200

Last Regulation DJ! Topics of Season:
WRITERS IN WARTIME
QUOTED IN BARTLETT'S
FASHION
FANTASTIC 4
JAPANESE HISTORY
SAME FIRST & LAST LETTER

Leigh's making a charge w/ $5,800 just as she walks to a DD in the middle of Fashion; she's $1K behind Bruce for 2nd place & $5K out of 1st. She attempts to add $3K to her bank once seeing & hearing this answer:

This fashion weekly began publishing in 1867; it got the double "A" in 1929.

"What is Bazaar...Harper's Bazaar?"...good enough for $8,800! And the last adult one of this season too belongs to her in the center of Japanese History, as well as the lead at $16K; Jared's just trailing her by $1,600 & Bruce has half his total. $2K's the bet by Leigh this time:

In 1914, Japan joined the Allies & quickly seized this European power's islands in the Pacific.

"What is Germany?"...good enough guess!

ATTEMPTED LT: $3,600
UNATTEMPTED LT: $2K
TOTAL DJ! LT: $5,600

Banks Prior to Final:

Jared: $18,400/Bruce: $4,800/Leigh: $19,200

CORYAT SCORES:

Jared: $18,200
Leigh: $16,600

FJ! CATEGORY #225: Classical Musicians.

The cover of the May 19. 1958 TIME magazine called him "The Texan Who Conquered Russia".

B: "Who is Van Cliburn?" ($4,799) = $9,599
J: SAME AS HIM ($10K) = $28,400- W (he leaves this season w/ $59,600 & two wins; Leigh only risked $800 anyway)

CURRENT ToC LEADERBOARD:
1. Ben Ingram: $176,534, 8 wins ($1K)
2. Drew Horwood: $138,100, 8 wins ($1K)
3. Andrew Moore: $137,803, 6 wins ($2K)

IT'S NOT MATT LAUER (NO, these aren't picture clues similar to the subject It's NOT Alex Trebek)

Once the first category's completed & David takes out the first Actual Police Blotter Report, he goes DDH on the $400 U.S. City Nickname...he just missed it & has to sit on $800 while Jared has it on the $600 one & $2,600; Kim's just gotten started because she has $200. For $5,200 or $0:

New Mexico: "The alien capital of the world"

"What is Roswell?" transforms his current green to $5,200! He remains in LGT at halftime w/ six grand; Kim's in 2nd place w/ $2,400.

SOLE ATTEMPTED TS: $1K (Actual Police Blotter Reports- Alex laughed towards the end of that clue)

THE "ND"

Jared has a VDD on the $1,600 Ancient Civilization & w/ $14,200, is $1,001 shy of being back in LGT, because Kim has $7,600; David's gotten back to square one. Jared bets $4K on this from Sarah:

At its peak in the 14th Century, this West African empire that bears the name of a present-day country almost covered half a million square miles.

"What is the Malian Empire?"...acceptable for $18,200! The final one's within Working Overtime at the Company...& the DDS is his via the $1,600 square; now he's at $26,200, but Kim's slightly within reach at $14K, $8K ahead of David (he originally got the last "ND" incorrect, but the ruling was reversed). Jared will bet $3K here.

I'm not leaving my office at this co. until I finish putting together a set of our Klubbo nesting tables.

"What is IKEA?"...right again!

"Top Chef Masters"- FIFTH SEASON PREMIERE

Posted on 11:04 by Unknown
EC: In Paris, CA, the Masters had to prepare a family-style meal for the Skyhawks parachute team. Before they could start prepping their food outside, they had a choice to either be driven in a Lexus RX 450h or have to skydive.

As you may recall, Douglas was safe because Drew won the first Battle of the Sous Chefs. However, Lynn, David & Richard were given this penalty when they arrived in Paris, CA...none of the sharp knives were at their disposal- just a butterknife, fork & spoon.

DISHES:

"The Challenge: Rivals II" 7/24

Posted on 20:45 by Unknown
WITHDREW- Trishelle & Sarah (Trishelle was the one who quit & had to go home via a Honda Civic Sedan)

C #3 ("Mind Over Splatter"): Two teams raced each other in each heat by climbing up a rope ladder & navigating a pair of ropes stretching 100 ft. to a deck suspended 30 ft. above the water. To stop their clock, they needed to ring their bell; there was a 10-min. time limit.

Because of what happened last week, CT & Wes & Preston & Knight had to go first in this challenge & were assessed 30-sec. penalties.

W- Paula & Emily & Frank & Johnny
L- Preston & Knight

J M-U #3: P & K vs. Robb & Derek (they got three votes; Marlon & Jordan received two & Leroy & Ty received the other one)
G: "Snapper"- While blindfolded & wearing a bell on each foot, they had to break a stick over their opponent's body. This is a best two-out-of-three affair.

R1: Robb vs. Preston- ROBB
R2: Derek vs. Knight- KNIGHT
FR: Robb vs. Knight- P & K W

DEBUT: "Spell-Mageddon"

Posted on 19:38 by Unknown
Michael Canter's an EP, as is former "Dancing Fools" EP Sandy Varo Jarrell; Rob George's the director.

Buzzed In: Run on a slippery path & hit one of three buzzers to earn a chance to spell a word announced by a female proctor. There will be an obstacle added in each of the later heats, except for the final one (& in the last two heats, only one buzzer will be available):

#2: Ball blaster
#3: Swinging log
#4: Bigger ball launcher
#5: Goggles

Rachel: EXPLAIN (she's a retail sales associate)
Jonah: DEPUTY (HS graduate)
Bobo: AMONG (stay-at-home dad four days before this episode was taped; the girl born was named Prayer)
Albert: REPUBLICAN (computer software technician)
Kristina: INSTEAD (HS Health teacher)
Tasha: PROPERTY (opera singer)- KELLY FIRST SENT TO LOOZER'S LOUNGE

Zapped: One contestant at a time has to spell a word, or else have blue slush come down on their head. The 2nd mistake eliminates him/her; two will report to the LL after this rd.'s done w/. The distractions for this rd.:

#1: Electric shocks
#2: Water coming out of the microphone
#3: Smoke

Slam Dunk: One at a time, they sit on a chair & have a min. to spell as many words correctly as possible. For each word spelled wrong, slush will come down again. Also, balls will be fired towards a target; every time that's hit, that chair will be lowered closer to the water which has gotten colder because Alfonso has dumped a bucket of ice into the tank. The two players w/ the lower scores are subject to total elimination in the LL, but the audience will then vote one of the five losers back into the game.

K: NUMERAL, ANCIENT, EPISOTIC (EPISODIC- she mistakenly tried to misspell EPISONIC at first, so they gave her a 2nd chance for that word since she misinterpreted the proctor), OBCESSIVE (OBSESSIVE), CURESTACEAN (CRUSTACEAN), GARBANZO (not enough time for COMMUTATIVE)
J: BELIEVE, SCONCE, ECLECTIC, COMPARISON (he misinterpreted CLIMATOLOGY several times)
R: "GAMBIT", CONCENTRATE, OXYMORON, ENTHUSIASM, ANNIVERSARY (time ran out on LOQUACIOUS)
A: RESOLVE, DESIGNER, RHETORIC, BAILIFF, CONTEMPLATE, DISTRESSING, UPHOLSTERY (time ran out on CIRRHOSIS)

VOTED BACK IN- Bobo

Splash Chamber: That slush comes down after each wrong word & three strikes send a person home. No matter what, water & soap will be sprayed inside, & later, they'll be massaged & bathed from behind.
