At halftime, David's in LGT w/ $4,200, leading Patrick by $2,800 & Sarah by $3K. Just before they took a break, Sarah went DDH on the $600 clue in A Useful Category...it is within there, but at the $1K end chosen instead by David & he's even deeper in LGT at $6,600; Sarah's at $1,800. He wagers face value.
A common type of this home safety device invented in the 1960s works by identifying changes in air ionization.
"What is a smoke detector?"...he shouldn't have shaked his head at all by saying that- that props him to $7,600! He finishes off the rd. at $7,800.
(Note: The last three Reality Checks were TS's- the order of the shows mentioned were "Survivor", "project RUNWAY", "The Gong Show", "Wipeout" & "America's Got Talent", all of which I've recapped since starting this site.)
SOLE ATTEMPTED TS: $800 (The Americas)
UNATTEMPTED LT: $5,400
TOTAL LT: $6,200

ARCHAEOLOGY
WITHIN LIMITATIONS (each word/words will contain some letters from "limitations")
Patrick selects a VDD on the third CNN Historic Revolution while being tied w/ Sarah at $2,200 per challenger. He's betting the whole works on this answer from Dan Rivers:
On Jun. 24, 1932 here in Bangkok, a group called The Promoters staged a bloodless coup which ended Thailand's absolute monarchy & led to this type of monarchy named for a document.
"What is a constitutional monarchy?"...we can agree on that to give him sole possession of 2nd place for now w/ $4,400! Once that's concluded, he even moves in front w/ $8K. After being right on the first three Bard "M"en to get back in 1st w/ $10,600, the fourth yields a DD for David; he's $2,200 over Patrick & Sarah's reached the $3K level. Patrick risks $2K of his margin.
The name of this steward in Twelfth Night is an approximation of the Italian for "ill will".
"What is Malvolio?"...got that guy & he SWEEPS the topic for a new total of $14,600! He DOES THE SAME to Within Limtations (after about a half-yr. wait for it to happen again, this is the second consecutive week we've had someone run two categories in one rd.) to drop Patrick to $6,400 & launch his own self to $22,600! His streak of right responses in this rd. of play ended at 11. No time for the last three clues about The Calendar.
SOLE ATTEMPTED TS: $1,600 (Archaeology)
UNATTEMPTED LT: $3,600
TOTAL DJ! LT: $5,200
