At the start of each journey, the teams have to determine their assignments by drawing knives:
Ryan & Madeline, Esmeralda & Dominic DePierro and Andrew "Lucky" & Andrea "Louie" Larson- SHELTER
Jim & Austin Vach, Spencer & Alicia and Wilson & Robin Sheppard- OBSTACLES (the entire group has to do these together)
Chris & Jeff and Vanessa & Erica- FOOD
Canden Bliss & Donna Nettles Jackson and Royce & Kyle- FIRE
The first obstacle's crossing a whitewater river.
Survival Test: As soon as Bear fills up everybody's jugs w/ muddy water (on top of the dehydrated urine that was already in them), he tells the teams to make a fire, filter their urine mixture & cook it to 95 degrees Celsius; after that, they have to cool it to 60 degrees before drinking it.
